Day 1 Huangshan-Jingdezhen: Gu Yao Folklore Exhibition Area, Sanbao Village, Jingdezhen Old Street
Day 2 Jingdezhen-Huangshan: Hutian Ancient Kiln Site, Sculpture Porcelain Factory
Your guide meets you at your hotel in Huangshan or at Huangshan Train Station, holding a Your Way Holiday sign. You travel to Jingdezhen together by high-speed train, a ride of about two hours, and the guide handles the tickets and the platform so you only need to arrive at the agreed time. On arrival in Jingdezhen, known as the porcelain capital of China, you start the tour with a short drive into the old city.

The first visit is the Gu Yao Folklore Exhibition Area, which includes the Ceramics History Museum. The museum keeps more than 5,000 pieces, from fine white porcelain to old paintings and examples of calligraphy, and it traces the work of the kilns across the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Your guide walks you through the hall and explains how the glazes, the kilns and the export trade changed over these periods, and why Jingdezhen became the centre of porcelain making in China.

At midday your guide takes you to a local restaurant for a simple Jingdezhen lunch. Two dishes worth trying are Cini Stewed Chicken, a slow-cooked chicken with local seasoning, and Clay Pot Soup, simmered in an earthen jar. Both use ingredients from around the city and show the everyday side of the region, away from the kilns and museums. Your guide recommends dishes to match the size of your group so nothing is wasted.

In the afternoon you visit Sanbao Village, an artists community on the edge of Jingdezhen where workshops and studios sit among the hills. Potters throw, trim and glaze their pieces on the spot, and many studios welcome visitors to watch or to try a simple piece themselves. Your guide arranges a stop at a workshop that is open and explains the stages of making a piece, from the raw kaolin clay to the fired glaze. Sanbao is where the older craft of the city meets the work of present-day ceramic artists.

The day ends on Jingdezhen Old Street, a restored trading quarter made up of Ming Street, Qing Street and the Old Pier by the river. The lanes hold porcelain shops, small studios and tea houses, and the waterfront pier recalls the time when clay and finished ware moved along the river to the ports. Your guide points out the older shopfronts and explains how the porcelain trade shaped the layout of the town. It is an easy area to walk, and there is time to look in the shops before dinner.

You spend the night at a hotel in Jingdezhen, close to the sites you visited today. Your guide helps you check in, and the rest of the evening is free for dinner or a short walk along the river. The second day of the tour begins at the hotel in the morning.
After breakfast at your hotel in Jingdezhen you drive to the Hutian Ancient Kiln Site, an archaeological area of about 400,000 square metres on the eastern edge of the city. The site keeps the remains of old kilns, workrooms and waste pits from centuries of porcelain making, and parts of it are preserved so you can see how a large kiln complex once worked. Your guide walks the grounds with you and explains how kilns were loaded and fired and how the finished ware left the site. The scale is the point here: this is where much of the long porcelain-making history of Jingdezhen was physically produced.

Next you visit a Sculpture Porcelain Factory, where workers shape and glaze decorative porcelain figures rather than tableware. You watch the modelling, the carving of details and the glazing, and the guide explains how a sculptural piece moves from a clay core to a finished, fired work. The factory has a sales hall where pieces are available to buy if you want to bring something home, and the guide can tell you which items travel well. It is a useful stop for seeing the decorative side of the craft after the historic kilns.

For lunch your guide takes you to a local restaurant for more Jingdezhen cooking. Two local specials are cold noodles, dressed with sauce and peanuts, and fried dough sticks wrapped in sticky rice, a sweet-savoury snack eaten only in this part of Jiangxi. The meals are informal and reasonably priced, and your guide helps you order so you can taste a little of each. It is a relaxed end to the sightseeing part of the day.

At the close of the tour your guide takes you to your hotel in Jingdezhen, or to Jingdezhen Train Station if you are travelling on, based on what you arranged at booking. There is no return leg to Huangshan: the two days start in Huangshan and finish here in Jingdezhen. Your guide helps you with the drop-off or the ticket gate and says goodbye, and the private service ends in Jingdezhen.
