Meeting at Huangshan and Driving to Qiyun

Your guide meets you at your hotel, Huangshan airport or the train station, holding a Your Way Holiday sign, and drives you out to Qiyun Mountain in southern Anhui, about an hour from Huangshan. Qiyun Mountain and Its Taoist Heritage

Qiyun Mountain is counted among the four great Taoist mountains of China and, together with Huangshan and Jiuhua Mountain, forms the three wonders of southern Anhui. At 585 metres it is lower than Huangshan, but it is known for five things: its Taoist heritage, more than 1,400 inscriptions cut into the cliffs, the red sandstone rock, a natural pattern like the Tai Chi symbol, and the stone lane called Moonlight Sky Street. Wangxian Tower at the Mountain Foot

Your first stop is Wangxian Tower, a pavilion at the foot of the mountain that looks out over the red sandstone cliffs and the green valleys around them. Dongtian Fudi, the Blessed Land

Higher up you enter Dongtian Fudi, the blessed land of the cave heavens, one of the places Taoism holds sacred. The path runs through rock formations, close-set pines and quiet shrines, and your guide describes the beliefs attached to the site. It is a calm stretch of the walk, and you keep moving at a steady pace with stops at the shelters along the way.

Dongtianfang Square and Shouzi Cliff

Dongtianfang is an open square ringed by small temples, shops and tea houses, where the religious life of the mountain sits alongside the daily life of the people who live there. Your guide pauses so you can look around and, if you like, try a cup of local herbal tea. Nearby is Shouzi Cliff, a rock face carved with a huge character meaning long life; your guide explains how the inscription was cut and why people have come to see it for centuries.

The Gates of Heaven and Moonlight Sky Street

The path then passes three gateways built into the mountain, known as the Gates of Heaven, each marking a step higher toward the summit shrines. Above them you reach Moonlight Sky Street, a stone lane along the ridge lined with temples, old houses and drifting incense, the best-known scene on Qiyun Mountain. Your guide walks it with you, points out the buildings and the carving styles and lets you set your own pace for photographs.

Taisu Palace and Xiaohutian Grotto

Close by stands Taisu Palace, one of the main Taoist temples on the mountain, with timber halls, stone altars and carved statues that your guide explains. Beside it is Xiaohutian, a small grotto cut into the red rock and filled with old carvings, dripping stone and moss, cool even on a warm day. Your guide shows you both and gives you a few quiet minutes in the grotto before you move on.

Lingxu Path to the High Peaks

From there the trail follows Lingxu Path, a ridge walk that links the high points of the mountain. You reach Zhangao Peak and the Zuowang Platform, open terraces that look back across the farmland and hills of southern Anhui, and cross the small Mengzhen Bridge to close the loop near Wangxian Tower. Your guide paces the ridge to your group, marks the viewpoints and explains how the sights connect on the way down.

Your Return to Huangshan

At the base your guide drives you back to your hotel in Huangshan, or to the airport or station if that suits your onward plans. The whole loop is set as a single relaxed day out from Huangshan, with your guide and driver handling the transport, the route and the explaining.
