Day 10 Huangshan Departure
On arrival, your guide meets you at Beijing airport or the train station holding a welcome sign that reads Your Way Holiday, then drives you to your hotel in downtown Beijing. The rest of the day is free to explore the city or rest from your flight, and your guide can recommend local restaurants for dinner at your own cost.
After breakfast, visit the Forbidden City, also called the Palace Museum, set in the heart of Beijing. It served as the imperial palace through the Ming and Qing dynasties and was the residence of 24 emperors. You walk through the great halls and courtyards of the complex.
Next is Jingshan Park, a former imperial garden that faces the Forbidden City. From its ridge, the highest point in central Beijing, you get a full clear view over the palace rooftops.
In the afternoon, your guide takes you to the Temple of Heaven, a key site for anyone interested in ancient Chinese ritual culture. Ming and Qing emperors came here from 1420 to 1900 to worship heaven and pray for good harvests, and the grounds are a classic mix of architecture and landscape.
After the tour, your guide drives you back to your hotel in Beijing.
After breakfast, drive out to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. Mutianyu sees fewer visitors than the Badaling or Juyongguan sections nearby, and its 2.5 kilometer wall walk takes more than an hour past 22 watchtowers and the valley on either side. On a quiet late afternoon you can take in the wall with little crowd around you.
In the afternoon, return to Beijing for the Summer Palace, a landmark of Chinese garden design. Emperors used it as a summer escape from the heat of the old city, and it is remembered above all as the residence of Empress Dowager Cixi.
After the tour, your guide drives you back to your hotel in Beijing.

After breakfast, begin your Shanghai day at Yuyuan Garden, a private Ming Dynasty garden once owned by the Pan family. The design mixes decorative halls, carved pavilions, stone bridges, zigzag walkways, pagodas, archways, and rock gardens around a network of pools.
Next is the Jade Buddha Temple, an active Buddhist temple in the city. Inside stand two jade Buddha figures, a seated statue about 1.95 meters tall and a smaller reclining figure that shows the passing of Buddha. The temple is a good place to observe worship and temple customs up close.
In the afternoon, head to the Old French Concession, a former residential quarter laid out for French residents. The area is known for its cafes, plane-tree-lined lanes, and old villas, and it stays quiet a short walk from the busy shopping streets.
Later, reach the Bund, the waterfront promenade facing the Pudong skyline. Along one side stand the colonial-era buildings of the early 1900s; across the river you can pick out the Pearl Tower, the Jinmao Tower, and the Shanghai Tower.
In the evening, take a Huangpu River cruise to see the lit-up skyline from the water. The short boat trip passes the Bund and the Pudong towers and is one of the easiest ways to view the city at night.
After the cruise, your guide drives you back to your hotel for the night.
After breakfast, drive about one hour to Zhujiajiao Water Town. Your guide meets you at the entrance and leads you through the canals, stone bridges, and old streets of the town.
The first stop is Fangsheng Bridge, the longest, widest, and tallest stone bridge in Zhujiajiao and in the Shanghai region, with five arch openings. It was built in 1571. A stone tablet on the bridge, the Dragon Gate Stone, is carved with eight coiling dragons around a pearl, and four stone lions sit along the top.
Nearby stands Baoguo Temple, built in 1640, the thirteenth year of the Chongzhen reign of the Ming Dynasty, and originally named Guanwang Temple for its worship of Guan Yu. Beside the temple grows an ancient ginkgo tree about 36.5 meters tall, with a trunk six meters around and a canopy up to seven meters wide. It is estimated to be more than 1,050 years old, the oldest and largest ginkgo in Shanghai.
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant in town, where your guide can point you to dishes the residents actually eat. Lunch is at your own cost.
In the afternoon, visit the Chenghuang, or City God, Temple. China has thousands of City God Temples, and the one in Zhujiajiao is a well-known Taoist place of worship with archaic wooden halls. Its courtyard holds a raised opera stage, a large abacus display, and an old ginkgo tree.
To see the whole water town from the water, take a boat cruise along the canals. The short ride past the riverside houses and stone bridges is the easiest way to understand how Zhujiajiao was built around its waterways.
After the sightseeing, your guide drives you back to your hotel in Shanghai.
Check out of your hotel in the morning and drive to the Shanghai train station for your high-speed train to Huangshan (train G1509 departs at 08:42 and arrives at Huangshan North Station at 11:08). Your Huangshan guide and driver meet you at the station exit holding a sign that reads Your Way Holiday, then drive you to your downtown hotel to check in.
After a short rest, stop for a simple lunch at a local restaurant at your own cost. Then walk Tunxi Old Street, an ancient commercial street in the center of Huangshan Town. Lined with more than 300 Hui-style buildings from different periods, it is one of the best-preserved old streets in China and keeps the architectural look of the Southern Song and Ming dynasties. The street runs 1,272 meters.
The old street holds small museums such as the Tunxi Museum and Wanci House, along with stalls for regional snacks like stinky mandarin fish and Huangshan pancake. Your guide points out the Hui-style details in the shopfronts, and you have free time to browse the lane.
After the sightseeing, your guide drives you back to your hotel in Huangshan.
Today your guide takes you to Huangshan Scenic Area by the Jade Screen side. The plan is to drive to the mountain, ride the cable car up to the Jade Screen Scenic Area, see the Greeting-Guests Pine, climb to Lotus Peak, walk Xihai Grand Canyon, and stay overnight at the summit.
Your guide collects you from the hotel in the early morning and drives about one hour to the Huangshan Scenic Area. The exact pickup time is confirmed with you the day before.
At the foot of the mountain, take the park bus up to Ciguang Pavilion and then the cable car to the Jade Screen Scenic Area. A short walk brings you to the Greeting-Guests Pine, a landmark tree and one of the symbols of Anhui Province. From here you can photograph the pine and look out across Celestial Capital Peak.
About an hour of walking leads to Lotus Peak, the highest point on Huangshan at 1,864.8 meters. Steps, plank paths, and a viewing platform make it a favored spot for photographs. You have roughly an hour here to rest and have lunch at your own cost.
After lunch, walk about an hour to Xihai Grand Canyon. Because of the height, low cloud drifts through the canyon like a stream under your feet, so it is also called White Cloud Canyon. The valley runs about 15 kilometers in all. On a clear evening you can watch the sunset from Cloud-dispelling Pavilion.
Then move on to your hotel on the summit, where your guide helps you check in for the night.
Summit hotels used for reference include Huangshan Shilin Hotel, Beihai Hotel, and Xihai Hotel. The final property depends on availability when you book.
The plan today is to catch the sunrise if the weather allows, visit Bright Summit and Flying-over Rock, take the cable car down the mountain, then drive to Hongcun Village and return to Tunxi for the night.
Huangshan sunrise is a major draw for visitors. If you want to see it, get up early; the best viewing point depends on where you stay on the ridge. The sunrise is weather-dependent and is offered only as a suggested option, and your guide lets you know the conditions the day before.
After breakfast, walk to Bright Summit, the second-highest peak on the mountain, then to Flying-over Rock, a large balanced boulder that appears to rest on the edge of a cliff.

Hongcun was founded in the Song Dynasty (960-1276) and is one of the first twelve famous historical and cultural villages in China. UNESCO placed it on the World Heritage List on November 30, 2000. Its layout follows traditional Chinese geomancy and the natural setting, and the village is often called the village in the painting, with art students sketching by the canals. More than 140 Huizhou-style houses from the Ming and Qing dynasties remain, and the Oscar-winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon shot scenes here.
After the tour, your driver takes you back to your hotel in Huangshan town (Tunxi).
