Your day starts when your driver collects you from your Shanghai hotel and takes you to the station for the high-speed train to Huangshan, a ride of about two and a half hours. A local guide holding a Your Way Holiday sign meets you at Huangshan station and leads you by car to the mountain. The plan sets an early start so you have a full block of time on the summit before you head home.

At the foot of the mountain your guide walks you to the Yungu Cableway, the line that carries you up to the summit area. The cable car rises above pine-clad slopes and clustered granite, and on a clear morning you can see the range standing well over a thousand metres around you. Your guide points out the main sights and explains how the mountain shaped Chinese landscape painting.

Your first walk on the plateau is to Begin-to-Believe Peak, a viewpoint reached by a stone stair path among the pines. The peak is known for its close views of jagged rock, wind-shaped pine trees and the valleys below, and its name comes from an old saying that you have to see it to believe it. Your guide pauses at the railings so you can take photos and lets you keep a steady pace on the steps.

From there your guide leads you to Bright Summit, at about 1,860 metres one of the highest points on the mountain and the central spot from which the other peaks can be picked out in every direction. When the weather turns the valleys into a slow-moving sea of cloud, this is one of the best places to watch it. Your guide helps you find the clearest edge and gives you time for photographs.

When you have taken in the views your guide walks you along the boardwalk path back toward the cable station. The ride down gives you a different angle on the peaks you crossed earlier. Your guide stays with you the whole way, answers your questions and keeps the group moving comfortably.
At the base your guide drives you back to Huangshan station for the train to Shanghai. When you arrive your driver is waiting to take you to your hotel, so you do not need to find your own way across the city after a long day. The route is arranged around your train times and paced to your group.
Yes. A driver collects you from your hotel in Shanghai for the station and is waiting to return you there when your train gets back, so you never arrange city transport yourself.
By high-speed train, roughly two and a half hours each way, with a private car and your guide meeting you at Huangshan station.
It starts early to catch the train and is a full day out of Shanghai, but the cableway carries you up and down so the summit walking stays manageable.
No. Your guide stops for lunch around midday and helps you order lighter or vegetarian dishes; you pay only for what you eat.
You walk the flat and stepped paths on the summit plateau between the sights; the cableway does the steep part. Your guide paces the steps and pauses at the viewpoints.
Yes, it is only your group with your own guide and drivers, so the day can be adjusted to your pace and the weather.

Hi! I’m very interested in your day trip to Huangshan mountains from Shanghai for two people. We (2 people) are staying in Shanghai from March 29-April 7 and would love to go on April 1st, 2nd, or 4th. How much would the rate change if lunch/snacks were included? What are the general times for trains/getting back/etc? Thank you so much!

Hi Morgan,
Thank you for your interest in the day trip to Huangshan from Shanghai!
Here’s what we can offer for your trip:
April 1st, 2nd, or 4th all work well for us, so we can definitely arrange a tour on one of those dates.
If you’d like to include lunch/snacks, we can arrange a local meal at a restaurant near the Huangshan area. The cost will generally increase by about RMB 150-200 per person depending on the meal options, but I can confirm the exact price when I send over the full itinerary.
The high-speed train from Shanghai to Huangshan typically takes around 3.5-4 hours.
Morning departure: We recommend taking an early morning train from Shanghai to make the most of your day (around 7:00-8:00 AM).
Evening return: After your tour, you can take a late evening train back to Shanghai (around 7:00-8:00 PM), ensuring that you have enough time to visit the main attractions.
Once I have more details, I’ll follow up with a full itinerary and pricing, including the option for meals and specific train schedules.
Let me know if you have any additional preferences, and I’ll make sure to adjust accordingly!
