Your journey begins with a high-speed train from Hangzhou to Huangshan. On arrival at the station, your guide meets you with a Your Way Holiday sign. Over the next three days you will see the scenery of the Yellow Mountain (Huangshan), walk through Huizhou Ancient Town, and stroll along Tunxi Ancient Street, with a guide at your side throughout.
Your local guide takes you to a chosen family restaurant for lunch, where you can taste Anhui cooking, one of the classic regional cuisines of China. Dishes include sweet and sour Mandarin Fish, Braised Bamboo Shoots, and Huangshan Tofu, known for a soft texture and deep flavor. Your guide will explain the story behind each plate before you move on to the first sights.
After lunch, visit Hongcun Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the foot of Mount Huangshan. The village is known for Hui-style architecture, old canals, and stone lanes, and it has drawn painters and film crews for generations. Your guide walks you through the layout and the meaning behind the buildings, and you may see local crafts such as woodcarving and calligraphy.
In the centre of Hongcun sits Moon Pond, called Yuezhao, shaped like a crescent moon. Its water reflects the white walls and dark tiled roofs of the houses around it. The pond dates to the Ming and Qing dynasties and was part of the water system of the village, as well as a place where residents washed clothes and met one another. Your guide will show how the pond and the lanes were planned together.
Near South Lake stands Nanhu Academy, a former Confucian school from the Ming and Qing dynasties that taught generations of local students. The halls, wood carvings, and courtyards are typical of Anhui architecture. Your guide will cover the academy and the role of Confucian learning in the daily life and history of Hongcun.
Leave Hongcun for a hike through the Mukeng Bamboo Forest in the hills near Huangshan. Marked paths lead through tall bamboo groves, sloping trails, and open clearings, with wooden homes at the forest edge. This easy hike suits children and older travelers and covers about 6 kilometers over 3 to 4 hours. The Umbrella Pine spreads its branches like an open fan and is said to be over 500 years old, and your guide will show how such trees hold on to narrow rock ledges and draw moisture from the clouds. The Black Tiger Pine has dark, rough bark and a strong form.
