This morning, drive to Yi County, where Hongcun Village is located. Hongcun was first settled during the Song Dynasty (960-1276) and is known as the "ancient village in a Chinese painting." Its layout, waterways, building forms, decoration, and construction methods still keep their original features, setting it apart from many other old villages in China.
The sights you will see in Hongcun include the following:
Moon Pond: a crescent-shaped pond ringed by several large residences, whose reflections in the water give the village the nickname the "Village in a Picture."
South Lake (Nanhu): the village is laid out in the shape of an ox. Leigang Hill forms the head, two old trees are the horns, four bridges across the stream are the legs, and the houses make up the body. Within it, the winding stream from the dam stands for the intestines, Moon Pond is the stomach, and South Lake is the belly.
Lunch will be arranged at a local restaurant. Lunch is not included in the tour price and is at your own cost.
After lunch, visit the nearby Mukeng Bamboo Forest, the filming location of the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." On a clear day you can catch views like the Huangshan sea of clouds, and the bamboo paths offer many photo opportunities.
The final stop is Nanping Village, nearly a thousand years old and sometimes called a museum of the Chinese feudal clan system. It holds clusters of Hui-style houses from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, along with some mixed Chinese-foreign buildings. The village has a stretch of old woods called Wansonglin, plus 72 lanes and 36 wells, and traditional stone-carved windows and wood-carved beams and columns.
The sights you will see in Nanping include Hui-style houses, ancestral halls, mixed Chinese-foreign buildings, lanes, wells, and the old woods.
After the tour, drive back to your hotel in Huangshan or to the train station. Your service ends here.

I want 1 day trip to huangshan and hongcun village. Is this possible? I will arrive 13th at night via train from shanghai and do day trip on 14th and head back to shanghai in the evening train.

While it is technically possible to visit both in one day, we would like to let you know that it would be a very tight schedule, and you might feel rushed.
To help you plan better, here’s a brief overview of the travel times:
– From Huangshan North Railway Station to the Yellow Mountain Scenic Area takes about 1 hour by car
– From the Yellow Mountain Scenic Area to Hongcun Village takes another 1 hour by car
– And you would also need to factor in the time needed to explore each site properly, as well as the return transfer to the train station in the evening
Given these time constraints, we recommend focusing on Huangshan only for a more relaxed and immersive experience, especially since hiking or taking the cable car up the mountain and enjoying the scenic viewpoints already makes for a fulfilling day.
Alternatively, if your schedule allows, a 2-day itinerary would be ideal—Day 1 for Huangshan and Day 2 for Hongcun and other nearby villages, offering a more complete and enjoyable visit without feeling rushed.
