Our eight-day journey through Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Huangshan, expertly organized by Sam, surpassed all expectations with its meticulous attention to detail and enriching itinerary.
Starting in Shanghai, we immersed ourselves in the historical charm of Yuyuan Garden & Bazaar, where traditional Chinese architecture and bustling market stalls delighted our senses. The nearby Old French Concession offered a glimpse into Shanghai's colonial past, with its tree-lined avenues and European-style buildings. Tianzifang, an artsy district filled with narrow alleys and boutique shops, provided a contemporary contrast.
At the serene Jade Buddha Temple, we marveled at the intricate Buddhist statues and soaked in the tranquil ambiance amidst the bustling city. The Bund, with its iconic waterfront promenade and skyline views, served as a perfect conclusion to our Shanghai exploration.
Traveling to Suzhou via high-speed train, we were captivated by the classical elegance of the Humble Administrator's Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its stunning architecture, pavilions, and tranquil water features. Strolling along Pingjiang Road, a historic street lined with traditional houses and quaint tea houses, we experienced the timeless charm of Suzhou's ancient streets.
At the Panmen Scenic Area, we explored the ancient city walls and pagodas, gaining insights into Suzhou's rich history and architectural heritage. The serene Hanshan Temple, surrounded by picturesque gardens and ancient trees, provided a spiritual retreat.
In Hangzhou, our journey commenced with a serene West Lake Boat Cruise, where we admired the picturesque scenery of willow-lined shores and ancient pagodas reflected on the tranquil waters. Viewing Fish at the Flower Pond offered a glimpse into traditional Chinese garden design, with its harmonious blend of pavilions, bridges, and aquatic plants.
Climbing the Leifeng Pagoda, we enjoyed panoramic views of West Lake and the surrounding cityscape, appreciating Hangzhou's natural beauty from a new perspective. The Meijiawu Tea Plantation immersed us in the art of tea-making, where we learned about the cultivation and brewing of Longjing tea amid lush green tea fields. A leisurely stroll along the Bamboo-lined Path at Yunqi provided a peaceful escape into nature.
Transitioning to Huangshan via bullet train, we ascended the majestic peaks of Shixin Peak, Brush Pen Peak, and Bright Summit, where the sea of clouds and dramatic rock formations created a surreal landscape. Witnessing the sunrise from Lion Peak was a breathtaking experience, offering panoramic views of Huangshan's iconic peaks and valleys.
During our journey, each of our tour guides enriched our experience with fluent English and insightful commentary, vividly describing each destination with historical anecdotes and cultural backgrounds. Comfortable transportation and polite drivers ensure that our travel between cities is seamless and enjoyable.
The only downside of this journey was encountering stormy weather in Hangzhou, but Sam's flexibility and professionalism ensured that our itinerary was adjusted to maximize our experience, while prioritizing safety and comfort. They are committed to providing excellent service and unforgettable experiences, making our journey unforgettable.

My journey from Shanghai to Hangzhou, Wuzhen, and Suzhou turned out to be an extraordinary adventure, surpassing all expectations! Originally planning to explore independently, I opted for a guided tour due to time constraints—and it was undoubtedly the right choice.
We began our exploration in Hangzhou with a serene West Lake Boat Cruise, gliding through the tranquil waters while soaking in the beauty of the surrounding hills and gardens.
Next, we ventured into the historical Guo Garden, where ancient buildings and meticulously manicured gardens offered a glimpse into the imperial lifestyle of ancient China. At the Meijiawu Tea Plantation, nestled among rolling hills draped in green tea bushes, we engaged in the time-honored tradition of tea-making, guided by knowledgeable locals who shared insights into the cultivation and brewing of Hangzhou's famous Longjing tea.
Continuing our journey in Hangzhou, we visited the Lingyin Temple, one of China's most celebrated Buddhist temples, adorned with intricate carvings and statues dating back centuries. The nearby Bamboo-lined Path at Yunqi provided a serene escape into nature, where towering bamboo groves whispered in the breeze, creating a peaceful atmosphere conducive to meditation and reflection.
We then explored the bustling Hefang Street, a vibrant marketplace lined with traditional shops selling local crafts, snacks, and souvenirs. The lively atmosphere and colorful displays provided a glimpse into Hangzhou's vibrant street culture and historical charm.
Transitioning to Wuzhen Water Town via private car, we marveled at the efficiency and comfort of China's modern transportation network, enjoying scenic views of rice paddies and traditional villages along the way.
In Wuzhen Water Town, known for its picturesque canals and ancient architecture, we explored the Jiangnan Hundred Beds Museum, delving into the region's unique cultural heritage. The Folk Custom Museum offered insights into traditional crafts and daily life in ancient China, while the Sanbai Wine Workshop and Hongyuan Thai Dye House showcased local craftsmanship and traditions.
We were captivated by the Shadow Play Show, a traditional Chinese art form using intricate puppets to depict stories from folklore and history, adding a magical touch to our visit to Wuzhen.
In Suzhou, known as the "Venice of the East," we visited the Suzhou Garden Museum, a showcase of classical Chinese garden design featuring pavilions, bridges, and serene water features. The Lion Grove Garden, famous for its labyrinthine rock formations and tranquil ponds, offered a peaceful retreat from the bustling city.
Walking along Pingjiang Road, a historic street lined with ancient buildings and quaint tea houses, we immersed ourselves in Suzhou's rich cultural heritage. My partner and I traveled from Australia to Hangzhou in July, greeted by slightly overcast yet refreshing weather after the previous hot days. Sofia, our guide from Your Way Holiday, promptly picked us up from our hotel, extending a warm welcome and immediately sharing insightful knowledge about the city. The comfortable car and thoughtfully provided water bottles were a nice touch that set a positive tone for the day.
Our journey commenced at West Lake with a serene boat cruise, where despite the haze, the vastness of the lake and its picturesque skyline left a lasting impression. Throughout the tour, Sofia's deep historical insights enriched our understanding of every site we visited, including the majestic Leifeng Pagoda, the tranquil Meijiawu Tea Plantation, the bamboo-lined paths at Yunqi, and the serene Yue Temple. Importantly, we appreciated that there were no aggressive sales pitches or detours to tourist shops, allowing us to focus fully on the cultural and natural beauty of Hangzhou.
Sofia's thoughtful planning extended to lunch, which she ordered based on her local recommendations, ensuring we enjoyed authentic cuisine without any language barriers. For our tea ceremony and tasting session, an English-speaking guide was arranged, enhancing our understanding of this integral aspect of Chinese culture. Sofia's flexibility was commendable as she allowed us to explore each site at our own pace, generously offering to capture memorable photos for us along the way. Her additional recommendations for places to visit in Hangzhou further enriched our travel plans.
